I participated in the march. When the march passed some Bush supporters, we heard them chant "Four more years! Four more years!" We protesters countered with "Four more months! Four more months!" and drowned them out.
I work right near the Garden, so I've been walking by the area quite a bit. There are delegates everywhere, and they really do stick out like sore thumbs. The men have pinkish skin, white hair and royal blue suit jackets, and all have that "greedy pig" sort of body shape. The women all have unfashionable skirt suits and wear heavy perfume.
Protesters on the street have been giving the delegates some lip. I personally came across two delegates about to exit a subway train, and I made sure to shove into them very deliberately when the train doors opened. They gave a shocked deer-in-headlights face. Passive agressive? You bet. Did it feel good. It felt great.
they are saying it was more like 500,000 people that came to protest the streets of manhattan. the newyorktimes has a somewhat decent account of what happened - if anybody is intrested anymore...
I just got back from NY protesting the Republican National Convention. This is something I put together from the pictures and a small clip I took from the march.
