in ancient china the tortoise is a magical creature who has such supernatural powers that he needs no earthly nourichment.

Yeah I think you are right! I think in Florida there are only gopher tortoises, not sure though. He was pretty big, about a foot and a half, otherwise i would have taken him:P

Turtles are my fovorite animal. Tortoises especially, that's probably a gopher tortoise, which is a threatened species. Did you take it as a pet?

stephen hawking starts "a brief history of time" with a story about a scientist who gave a beginners lecture on astronomy. at the end of the lecture, an old lady stands up and tells him what he's said is a lie - that the world is supported on the back of a giant turtle.

the scientist gets a laugh out of this and asks her just what the tortoise is standing on if he's supporting the earth.

the lady replies "you're very clever, young man - but it's turtles all the way down".

i like it though it it probably never happened. also it reminds me of the neverending story. ARTAX!!!!

undah and I were at a trail called, Blanchard park in O-Town, and this little dude came tromping out. He was so loud before we could see him that we thought we were about to be devoured by some insidious monster.
