i totally remember paul's cds! i'll have to drop by @ dreaming ant next time i'm back in pgh.

after 5 awesome years, i have finally left the museum world (at least as a worker - it is neat being back on just the visitor side of things), for a big presto change-o: i'm a full-time student once more. never too cool for school!

...is located inside crazy mocha coffee co in bloomfield, formerly el dolce cafe. as a music buff, you should remember paul's cds? we're right across the street.

what are you doing now? curating?

hey, i lived in east liberty, just south of the highland park border!

which coffee shop do you mean? say hi to phil for me, though i doubt he remembers who i am. we used to work at the warhol at the same time - at one point, i felt like nearly everyone i knew in pgh was a gallery attendant at some time or another - but by the time phil arrived, i was working in curatorial. i'm pretty sure he + my ex, james, worked on the floors at the same time. he did seem like a nice fella, + i certainly dig his tunes.

look forward to hearing + seeing more of your footage!

thanks for your input, mitch! i'm glad you "got" it.

it's great to be able to show off a bunch of pittsburgh's great musical talents. i fear, however, that the teaser i posted comes off a bit too negative (it was even more negative, but i had to clip some comments out to get it under 2mg).

the documentary, in addition to showcasing some of pittsburgh's great musical talents, will hopefully examine some questions that interest me:

what is artistic success? how do musical artists create? does location affect success (i.e. can a band/artist from pittsburgh be successful from pittsburgh, or do they need to move to ny, la, etc.)? why are some of these artists restricted to the cliques that form around certain music genres/scenes/attitudes. i'm very interested in cliques, and how they stifle positive growth.

as for the trailer, i just thought it would be funny to make it sensational a la HARD COPY. i purposely intercut music clips featuring great artists, however, amongst the negative comments to balance it out...naively believing that people would "get" it. but i've come to the conclusion that most people who aren't familiar with pittsburgh's music scene, come away from the trailer with a negative vibe. and after i cut the original teaser together and showed it to a few people, i realized that i had filled it with inside jokes, funny probably only to me and a few others.

anyway, i hope to finish more in the future. thanks again!

then every scene would be given the credit it's due.

think about it, you could be apart of scenes in major cities across america, or around the world... i think you really have something here, sharing this movie on this site.

plus your movie looks like it is a real view on your scene. i really enjoyed this video!

where in pa did you live? when modey phil (singer) is in pgh, he occassionally hangs out at the coffee shop where dreaming ant is located. swell chap, he is.

one of these days, i WILL get back to working on the doc. in the meantime, medicinefilms is a cool outlet for me to post snipets and get some feedback as i sift thru the 80+ hours of footage i have. ;-)

thanks again!

i think i'll just wait 20 years to release the feature - hype it as an historical document of pittsburgh music circa 2002. i MIGHT have it edited by then! dB

Revile - a teaser

Yet again, I have a ton of footage for a project I'm in the middle of, but all I could muster was the energy (& time) to complete a small teaser. This teaser includes clips from a documentary about Pittsburgh's music community that I've been working on since 2002.

I apologize for the crappy resolution, but in order to stay under 2mg I had to reduce it to 3fps & 25% quality. If anyone has any suggestions for better compression, I'm all ears! I currently use Premier 6.5 and output t...
